Selkirk Mountain Experience was founded in June of 1985 by the Swiss Mountain Guide, Ruedi Beglinger. Ruedi grew up in the scenic and high-alpine valley of Glarus in Switzerland. He received the Certification as an International Certified Mountain Guide by the Swiss Guide Association at the age of 22 and began his career as a Guide in the mid seventies in the European Alps. Ruedi has never seen his profession as a job, for him it is a passion and a part of living, without which life would not be complete. When he is not guiding clients in the beautiful high alpine, either on skis or in the summer months on a spectacular alpine route, he can be found in the mountains with climbing-friends or his family enjoying a quiet tour to a remote peak. Over the many years Ruedi has achieved over 155 first ascents in the European Alps and in West Canada, he has pioneered 9 high alpine ski-traverses, challenged himself with many extreme alpine ski-descents, established long alpine routes on ice and rock or simply created interesting sport-climbing routes. However, what drives Ruedi is being able to guide enthusiastic guests into the unspoiled high alpine and share with everybody the special experience mountains have to offer.

Today Selkirk Mountain Experience is, not only, among the leading ski-mountaineering companies world wide, it has also gained a proud reputation in quality work and respect towards the mountain-world and its environment. A large part of the business is based at the Durrand Glacier area, 45 km NE of Revelstoke in West Canada. The 1st class Durrand Glacier Chalet in this 80 square kilometer (20,000 acres) area of 14 different glaciers, 24 striking alpine peaks and 5 major tree-skiing areas is a large focus of Selkirk Mountain Experience.

Another, just as important, part of Selkirk Mountain Experience are the many trips all over the world, with a strong focus on the European-Alps, which Ruedi still considers his native home. Guiding in the European Alps from late April until late May and showing to all guests this overwhelming and impressive terrain and the deep mountain culture in the various mountain valleys, gives Ruedi an increasing sense of pride in his heritage and profession as a Mountain Guide.

Under the motto "Ski Mountaineer the entire Alps" Ruedi offers, each year, new ski-mountaineering trips and ski-traverses, leading guests to the most amazing mountain-ranges of the European Alps. With his life-time experience of growing up in the Swiss Alps and later guiding guests from around the world to every corner of the Alps, Ruedi is not just highly respected in the Alps but also is most familiar in getting around and dealing with logistics. With his longstanding friendship and loyal working relationship with mountain-people from all parts of the Alps, Ruedi always receives not just the best possible services but also many special privileges for his guests.
